Church calls for
dialogue in Honduras

DALLAS — The Catholic Church in Honduras is in favor of a dialogue to overcome the climate of unrest that triggered the abrupt ousting of President Manuel Zelaya of Honduras, on Sunday June 28. This was stated in a telephone interview with Father Juan Angel Lopez, a spokesman for the cardinal of Honduras, Oscar Andrés Rodríguez, who emphasized that “Honduras is not living a climate of war as the world thinks. There was no military coup to overthrow President Zelaya; the military were just complying with the law.”

Little sister inspires Jesuit’s state golf champion

As his parents and siblings watched intently from the front pew, Vincent Chinaka Anyama was ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of Dallas at the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe on June 13. Bishop Kevin J. Farrell presided at the rite of ordination in a stirring ceremony that incorporated Father Anyama’s native Nigerian culture and Igbo language. The bishop opened by thanking Father Anyama’s parents for nurturing their son’s vocation.

FARMERS BRANCH — Jordan Spieth can’t drive a car yet, but a golf ball is another story. Spieth, 15, first took aim at a toy ball with a plastic club before his second birthday. Driving a real golf ball has become second nature to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 5A golf champion. He recently finished his sophomore year at Jesuit College Preparatory School and closed out May as Golfweek’s No. 1 ranked junior golfer in the nation.
